The Procrastinating Beauty Blogger Tag

The lovely Laura of Style Breakdown posted this tag post on her blog. As I am a famous procrastinator I thought I’d answer the questions as she suggested. If you like it, please do the same.

1. Name the beauty regiment that you rarely do.

I am always planning to apply a face mask to deep clean my face and rarely do because I am lazy.

2. Is washing your makeup brushes something you rarely do?

Yes, although Sal and Tifa would probably tell me off. I put off doing this all the time.

3. How long will you last with chipped nail polish?

Depends how annoying it is, I have been known to pick at the chips and make it worse, needing to repair the damage sooner.

4. How long will you put off buying/repurchasing a beauty product, even if you need it?

Not long, I tend to have a spare waiting in the wings, but if something really run out then it’s off to Boots I go.

5. What is your worst beauty habit?

I pick and poke any lumps or spots threatening to appear. I know I should leave my face alone but I can’t.

6. Name something non-beauty related that you put off doing all the time?

Taking out the recycling, only when it’s overflowing do I run out to the bins. Just sheer laziness.

7. When going out somewhere do you put off getting ready to the last minute?

Not really, I get anxious about being on time so often rush to get ready but I invariably forget something and have to rush around at the last moment.

8. Can you commit to a spending ban?

As long as nothing essential runs out, sure, but essentials must be repurchased.

9. How organised are your beauty/nail polish collections?

Not as organised as my brain in its analytical obsessiveness would like, but I’m working on getting it so.

I hope some of you lovely people take this tag up and have some fun with it. Thanks for reading.

blogging, films, life, movie night

Best ever Christmas films, according to me!

During the festive season one of my favourite things to do is camp out on the sofa and watch Christmas films. I tend to stick to a few old favourites.

Rent – yes this film is about people dying of AIDS in poverty in early 90s New York, based on an opera (La Boheme) and it’s a musical but it begins and ends at Christmas and I love it. I know all the words to the songs and cry at the sad parts. It’s ultimately a story of redemption and love overcoming all odds.

image

Muppets’ Christmas Carol – by far the best version of Dickens’ famous festive tale. Michael Caine as the crochety Mr Scrooge being shown the error of his ways by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, while his employee Bob Cratchit (Kermit the Frog) struggles to provide for his rather large, mixed species family. With songs. And Muppets.

image

Home Alone – the first one is brilliant, Macauley Culkin may be a much derided child star but this film with its genius level child building a lifesize version of the game Mousetrap to catch two bungling burglars, is every child’s secret dream.

image

Elf – I’m not the biggest Will Ferrell fan but this is hilarious and silly, Zooey Deschanel is all big eyes and Ferrell as Buddy the Elf is just perfect.

image

The Grinch – not the rubber faced Jim Carrey one but the original cartoon adaptation of Dr Seuss’ rhyming book about the grumpy Grinch and the good hearted Hoos of Hoosville who change his mind.

image

Scrooged – Bill Murray was riding high when he made this, a high powered exec who follows in the footsteps of Ebenezer Scrooge by being miserly and mean at Christmas before ghostly visits have him rethinking his life. Murray’s Christmas special is currently on Netflix and is on my festive ‘To Watch’ list as is this very 80s film.

All quiet on the blog front

Sorry it’s been a bit sparse in terms of posts recently, I’m busy trying to find a new job and have been at a host of interviews, with more to come this week. Fingers crossed I get something soon so I can do my Christmas shopping and get back to blogging more regularly.

There are a few posts to come over the next week or so, keep an eye out.

If you want to see what I’m up to in between posts, Instagram is my current favourite social media hangout.

blog awards, blogging

Liebster Award

The lovely Marcella nominated me for a blog award – the Liebster Award. It was a little while ago, so I apologise about only getting round to writing this post now.

I have to answer some questions she asked on her blog and nominate some bloggers of my own. So here we go!

Nadia’s Questions:

1. Why did you start blogging? I had another blog a long time ago and I realised I missed it, so here I am!

2. Phobias? Spiders, ewww, they make me feel sick.

3. Costa or Starbucks? Neither really, I don’t drink coffee or tea so these places are wasted on me.

4. Superstitions? I say hello to cats, and magpies, don’t open umbrellas indoors or walk under ladders and I have been known to pick up pennies in the street.

5. Favourite song? errmm, not sure, there’s so many I like. But ‘Ampersand’ by Amanda Palmer is definitely up there.

6. Party or stay home? Stay home and party in my pjs 🙂

7. Single? Nope, live with my long suffering boyfriend, Cal.

8. Favourite lush product? Celestial is my go-to moisturiser, although I love a lot of their products.

9. Junk food junkie? Nope, clean eating and looking after myself at the moment means no junk food.

10. Heels or flats? Flats, I can’t walk in heels, ever seem a video of a newborn giraffe, staggering about? That’s me.

11. Pet peeves? I live in London, we get a lot of tourists, they walk incredibly slowly and clog up the pavement, I wish they wouldn’t, I have places to be!

Ok, so I need to pick someone to answer my questions.

I nominate: DorkchopsEverything Nadia and Beauty and the Mechanic

Here’s your questions girls.

1. Favourite food?

2. TV show of the moment?

3. Desert island beauty essentials

4. If you were putting together a beauty box – what 3 items would you most want to be in it?

5. Favourite book?

6. Heels or trainers?

7. What’s the one place on your bucket list you’re determined to visit?

8. Short nails or long talons?

9. Pets?

10. What are your new season colours?

11. Where’s Wally?

Ok, so there you go. Pass it on. 🙂

Upcoming…

image

Hi,

Just wanted to talk about upcoming things on the blog.
I will still blog about beauty boxes, beauty in general, books, baking and, invariably shoes (I love shoes).
But I have other interests and things I want to blog about, and as this is my blog, I will.
If you aren’t interested in a post I’ve written, skip it and come back when I write about something you keen to read about. There will always be variety.

For example, I want to talk about feminism and what it means to me, or learning yoga, or my journey through the minefield of depression and anxiety, shoes (seriously, I love shoes), trips, events, days out, why people are incapable of walking at anything but snail’s pace (my pet peeve), my new diet and healthy lifestyle, why snails make me cry and why geese are evil!
So stay tuned, keep an eye on the post tags, check out what’s new, say hi, and admire shoes with me (mmmm, new season, new shoes). 🙂

What’s in a name

image

So I saw this on Tumblr earlier (apologies for the tiny image – cannot seem to make it bigger), the comment at the bottom is mine.

I am Madeleine. I share my name with a cake that had Proust in rhapsodies, a district in Paris (I sat in Place de la Madeleine eating madeleines once, it was hilarious), author Madeleine L’Engle, former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright (she’s @madeleine on Twitter).

If mispronounced (frequently happens) I get called ‘Madeline’ and become a redhead who lives in two straight lines under the watchful eye of a nun.

My mum named me after Mary Magdalen in the Bible – she was Jesus’ friend (some say wife) and as far as my parents were concerned I was their miracle baby. Madeleine is the French version of Magdalen.

I hated my name growing up, it was nine letters no one could spell or pronounce correctly. Even teachers.

I’ve grown into it. But I’ll never be a Maddy, Maddie or Maddi. Mads I can tolerate but not Maddy.
