Click to go to the previous book in the series – Thanks for the Love

A new beginning leads to a second-chance at romance.

Done with the frigid northern winters, Reagan Westbourne has an easy solution—move to Miami.
It makes total sense. She can even live with her sister. But after a few months of enduring her quirky sibling’s newlywed bliss, Reagan is ready to spread her wings and move out. Life with two fun roommates and a promising job completes the picture for Reagan. Almost.
When Reagan’s old college friend, Dante, opens a new restaurant in Miami, the past mixes with the present. Afterall, he’s the only man Reagan’s ever had feelings for. And it seems the attraction might just be mutual. Yet when their paths finally seem to align, old and new friends enter the picture, leaving Reagan unsure of her feelings.Could this second-chance be the
answer, or is it time to leave the memories in the past?

My thoughts: this second book in the Thankful series is Reagan’s story – a love story, also about friendship and sisterhood. After following her sister from Chicago to Miami, she’s living the dream with a great job and fab roommates. Her college pal Dante has opened a great new restaurant nearby and they’ve been hanging out when he’s not busy. But when her best friend from back home, Bethany, comes to visit, things go a bit sideways.

Luckily Reagan has friends to back her, Gabby and Lila have her as does scary sister Kennedy, I wouldn’t mess with her. Plus her work colleague Jeremy keeps her in doughnuts and flirty banter, but is there more to it?

This second installment sees the gang deal with what it is to be a friend. Lila is putting aside her dislike of Gabby’s boyfriend and they both support Reagan when her friendship with Bethany turns toxic. Your real friends are always there for you.

My thoughts: this was a fun novella about starting over somewhere new. Gabby has moved from Orlando to Miami, leaving her broken heart behind she hopes. With a new job, new roommates and a handsome neighbour to keep her busy, she’s hoping to forget her ex-fiance and former best friend, who betrayed her. Her new pals are keen to explore the city, try new things and have fun, and so is Gabby.

Light hearted and entertaining this is the first book of three about Gabby and her roommates, and it introduces us to them and their lives in sunny Miami. I liked all of them, fun, smart women who want to get the most out of their lives. Come back next Monday for book two!

Blog Tour: Playing for Love – Jeevani Charika

When Sam’s not working on her fledgling business, she spends her time secretly video-gaming. Her crush is famous gamer Blaze, and she’s thrilled when she’s teamed up with him in a virtual tournament.

But what Sam doesn’t know is that Blaze is the alter ego of Luke, her shy colleague – and he has a secret crush too.

Luke has a crush on Sam.
Sam has a crush on Blaze.

How will this game of love play out?

A fun, feel-good romance for fans of You’ve Got Mail, Helen Hoang, Jasmine Guillory and Lindsey Kelk.

My thoughts: I’m not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination but I am married to one, although he’s not as passionate as Sam and Luke are, or should I say Blaze and Bravura! But between their work space friendship and the unknowing one they’re having online, things can either go horribly wrong or very, very right.

This was a funny, sweet, light hearted rom com, a bit You’ve Got Mail for the new century and a bit Sleepless in Seattle but with a Sri Lankan protagonist. Sam’s honouring of her late mother through her business was lovely, even if her dad struggled to fully understand it. I really liked Sam and her cheeky flatmate/cousin. They were lots of fun, and the office receptionist was a hoot, trying to matchmake from behind her desk.

Blog Tour: The Start of Something – Miranda Dickinson

Two lonely people.
One note in the window.
And what happens when they reach out…

Lachlan Wallace is stuck at home after a car accident stalled his army career. With months of physiotherapy still to endure and only his rescue dog and cat for company, he’s taken to gazing out of the window, watching the world spin on without him. And then he notices a vase of flowers on the windowsill of the apartment opposite his. Drawn to their hope and colour, he decides to reach out and sticks a message in his window…

Bethan Gwynne is a stranger in a new town. Bringing up her son Noah by herself, she is slowly rebuilding her life, but loneliness is one obstacle she has yet to overcome. She’s intrigued by a glimpse of her neighbour in the apartment across from hers – and then, one evening, she sees a message in his window just for her:

WHAT ARE THOSE FLOWERS CALLED?

And so begins a love story of two people reaching out, daring to trust a stranger…

My thoughts: this was a really sweet, gentle love story. Lachlan is recovering from a terrible accident that might just end his military career and Bethan has moved in opposite. She lives with her son Noah and works in a garden centre.

As their relationship develops from notes in the window to chatting through the hedge and they start to fall in love both have to deal with the things in their lives they’ve been trying to avoid.

I loved Bethan and her determination to make a better life for herself and Noah, trying to revive the flagging fortunes of the independent garden centre she works at and slowly allowing herself to open up. Lachlan was also a really sweet, sad character, with his lovely pets, Bert and Ernie, and his struggle to recover and move on from a horrific injury.

The ending was lovely, sweet and perfect, with so much hope for the future.

My thoughts: this was a fun crime rom com, with dogs. Zoey is a scientist who worked for a company that was investigated by the FBI, she lost her job and decides that the Bureau needs to help her rebuild her life. With dogs.

Joining the K-9 training program, she gets the chance to go undercover at her old job and find the person who wrecked everything. With dogs.

I loved it, it was clever and funny and sweet, and did I mention there are dogs? And a hunky agent keeping Zoey safe, with dogs.

Blog Tour: The Little Shop of Hidden Treasures – Holly Hepburn

When Hope loses her husband, she fears her happiest days are behind her. With her only connection to London broken, she moves home to York to be near her family and to begin to build a new life.

Taking a job at the antique shop she has always admired, she finds herself crossing paths with two very different men. Will, who has recently become the guardian to his niece after the tragic death of her parents. And Ciaran, who she enlists to help solve the mystery of an Egyptian antique. Two men who represent two different happy endings.

But can she trust herself to choose the right man? And will that bring her everything she really needs?

My thoughts:

This was lovely, I cried, I laughed and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hope’s story. I want a sequel! I want to know what happens next with Hope and Will and how Brodie grows up and the kittens and the wonderful shop that brought them together.

Originally published as a 4 part ebook, this is a sweet, charming story about grief and love and moving on. Hope has moved to York, closer to her family, following her husband’s early death, and applies to work at a wonderful antiques shop – The Ever After Emporium. There she meets Will and Brodie and discovers a mystery. Unravelling it introduces her to more new friends and a wonderful romantic love story from the 1930s.

She begins to live again, finally feeling happy and content. She starts to date, takes up belly dancing and develops new skills at her work, but it’s the friendships that take centre stage, and could lead to more. The characters are so well written and the book feels infused with joy and love. Something Holly Hepburn is very good at doing.

Book Blitz: Anything Could Happen – Lucy Diamond

Your big secret is out. What next?

For Lara and her daughter Eliza, it has always been just the two of them. But when Eliza turns eighteen and wants to connect with her father, Lara is forced to admit a secret that she has been keeping from her daughter her whole life.

Eliza needs answers – and so does Lara. Their journey to the truth will take them on a road trip across England and eventually to New York, where it all began. Dreams might have been broken and opportunities missed, but there are still surprises in store…

Anything Could Happen is a warm, wise, funny and uplifting novel about love, second chances and the unexpected and extraordinary paths life can take us down.

My thoughts: this was a lovely, fun read about family and not having any regrets. Eliza wants to find her biological dad, Laura isn’t so sure about digging in the past, she thinks she’s moved on, but she does have some questions.

Ben has no idea about any of this, he’s living in Cambridge and blissfully unaware of how much his life is about to change.

This book cut right through the winter gloom, it’s upbeat and everyone in it gets their lives stirred up but not in necessarily bad ways, maybe it’s time to make some changes in their lives.

About the Author

janet-raye-stevens-bio-shot

Janet Raye Stevens grew up surrounded by, buried under, and tripping over books. Her mother defined the term voracious reader, and Janet eagerly followed in her footsteps, haunting every book store, bookmobile and public library within a 50 mile radius.

At the age of 10, Janet decided she wanted to do what the authors of the books she loved did –write. Her first story was for a class assignment, “The Day My Teacher Wore a Miniskirt to School.” She got a C minus. She also got a lot of laughs, and that was all the encouragement she needed to keep writing.

Janet lives with her family in New England, where she indulges in her hobbies of drinking copious amounts of tea, rearranging the kitchen cabinets so her husband can’t find anything, and creating fictional worlds populated with cool chicks and hot guys.

Blog Tour: Kingscastle – Sophie Holloway

An enchanting romance that fans of Bridgerton will take to their hearts Captain William Hawksmoor of the Royal Navy never expected to inherit Kingscastle and is none too pleased when he does so. Especially when he learns that he must marry within a year or be forever dealing with trustees. As the new Marquis of Athelney, the captain takes command of Kingscastle and discovers much to be done to set it in order. He must also contend with his aunt, Lady Willoughby Hawksmoor, who is determined that her daughter will be his wife. When she discovers he is far more interested in Eleanor Burgess, her underpaid and much put-upon companion, Lady Willoughby shows she will stop at nothing to keep them apart.

Author Biography. Sophia Holloway read Modern History at Oxford, also writes the Bradecote and Catchpoll medieval mysteries as Sarah Hawkswood. Website

My thoughts: this was a lot of fun, with Captain William Hawksmoor having to deal with terrible relatives, his aunt was a complete bitch, ancient buildings, bad weather – I loved him buying boats to rescue people in the flood, so very naval. His friends were also excellent people and when he finally goes after the love of his life, nothing can stand in his way. Especially Lady Willoughby, who I would definitely have pushed out of a window.

Blog Tour: A Bookshop Christmas – Rachel Burton

A Snowstorm. A stranger. A Spark. It should be the perfect start to the perfect love story.
But real life is far messier and more complicated than in the pages of the books in Megan Taylor’s family bookshop – the last few years have left this young widow in no doubt of that. Moving back home to York should have been a fresh start, but all it did was allow her to retreat from the world.
When prize-winning author Xander Stone rams his supermarket trolley into her ankles and then trashes her taste in books, Megan is abruptly awoken from her self-imposed hibernation. It’s time to
start living again, and she’s going to start by putting this arrogant, superior – admittedly sexy – stranger in his place.
Just as she is beginning to enjoy life again, the worst happens and Megan begins to wonder if she should have stayed hidden away. Because it turns out that falling in love again is about more than just
meeting under the mistletoe…

Rachel Burton has been making up stories for as long as she can remember and always dreamed of being a writer until life somehow got in the way. After reading for a degree in Classics and another in
English Literature she accidentally fell into a career in law, but eventually managed to write her first book on her lunch breaks. Now she writes from a small bedroom looking out over hydrangeas, lavender bushes and rambling roses, in a little house in Yorkshire that she shares with her husband and their three cats. She loves words, Shakespeare, tea, The Beatles, dresses with pockets and very tall romantic heroes (not necessarily in that order).
Find her on Instagram or follow her blog

Twitter Facebook

My thoughts: this was a sweet festive romance, with a good dash of humour and a sausage dog for luck. Megan has been running the family bookshop since her husband sadly died, but things need to change and bad tempered author Xander might just be the one to do it. There’s a Regency romance themed Christmas party on the cards, if everyone remembers the steps to the quadrille and the rules to all the card games, a snowed in Sunday lunch and an assortment of eccentrics in the cooking section to deal with along the way.

If you want something light, charming and with the all important HEA, then you’ve come to the right book.
