Naomi Hannah has been blind since birth. Struggling with living in a small, claustrophobic town, Naomi contemplates ending her life. My thoughts: Naomi is a deeply unhappy person, struggling with depression following the end of her marriage, having trouble talking to her family, she’s contemplated ending it all a few times.

Making her way home from work one evening, she takes a wrong turn and ends up in an alley. In the alley is a dead woman and her killer. Naomi can’t see the person standing right in front of her, and the killer uses that.

A series of truly terrible things happen to Naomi, who has the very serious misfortune of getting onto the radar of two different psychopaths. As her life is endangered, can the police solve the murders and keep Naomi alive?

Twisted, shocking and violent, the small town Naomi has lived in her whole life is rocked by the events, could it all be connected to the disappearance of a teenage girl years before, and if so, why does someone want to torment the blind woman?

The story of course has a signature Jack Jordan end twist, that is so well hidden, you won’t have any idea what’s coming, poor Naomi.

My thoughts: This was a dark and twisted read, it seemed to be going in one direction, and then veered off somewhere unexpected and far more sinister.

Paige’s daughter was kidnapped ten years ago and all that was found was her left arm, and then her husband recently committed suicide. She’s drinking too much, trading sex for drugs with her GP, and struggling to hold her life together.

Things keep happening to her – her husband’s clothes disappear, her daughter’s room is cleared. She’s positive it isn’t her doing this, but who else could it be?

Thankfully her brother, a vicar, is available to offer her support and a hot meal when she hasn’t eaten. But his support might come at a terrible price.

The plot seems like it might be about Paige following up on her late husband’s attempts to hire a hit man, to find out who he suspected of their daughter’s abduction and murder. But then it goes, way, way off from that plot into disturbing places.

If you like your crime thrillers twisted and dark, this is one for you.

My thoughts: Neve has been handed the biggest case of her career – defending a man accused of murdering his family and burning his house down to cover up his crimes. Then she is told that she must get him convicted. His late wife’s family are willing to kill her’s to ensure this happens. They’re positive he’s guilty, and even if he isn’t, tough.

Neve is placed in a difficult position, an impossible one. Her client insists he’s innocent but Neve becomes less sure as the case goes on. Can she throw the trial and have an innocent man locked up or is he as guilty as his wife’s family says?

Clever, gripping and full of twists, this is another brilliant thriller from Jack Jordan, with a fascinating, conflicted protagonist and a complex moral dilemma at its heart.

My thoughts: I don’t have kids but I do know a fair few mums and I completely understand how dedicated and how much they love their children.

I don’t know however if they’d actually be able to kill for them as Anna is blackmailed into doing here. The people who took her little boy will kill him if the local MP makes it off her table. Doctors pledge to do no harm, but mothers will say they’d do anything for their child.

This is such a delicious and chilling set up and Anna can’t just leave it there. Especially when she doesn’t get her terrified son back straight away. Something else is in play here and it’s only by following every tiny lead (and dodgy nurse Margot) that she can finally get Zack back.

The cops are on the case so she also needs to throw them off the scent, survive a review at work, and keep her ex-husband from finding anything out. Easy peasy. Not like it’s oh, open heart surgery or anything.

I was totally hooked, the way the story plays out, the alternating viewpoints from Anna and Margot, as they’re pulled into a deadly world of crime and politics, it’s dark and clever and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
