Blog Tour: Daughters of Nicnevin – Shona Kinsella

Mairead and Constance, two powerful witches, meet in the early days of the 1745 Jacobite uprising. While the men of the vilage are away fighting, the vilagers face threats from both the Black Watch and raiders, and the women are confronted with their vulnerability. They enlist the help of Nicnevin, fae queen of witches, to bring men made of earth to life to help protect their vilage. But just who do they need protection from? And what will happen when the vilage men return?

Shona Kinsela is a British Fantasy Award nominated author who lives and works in Scotland. Her works include the Vessel of KalaDene trilogy, industrial fantasy novela, The Flame and the Flood, and dark Scottish fantasy novela Petra MacDonald and the Queen of the Fae. She is the Chair of the British Fantasy Society.

My thoughts: Mairead is drawn to the village of Kilmartin by the power of Constance, an unhappy woman, and another witch but far more powerful. The men have gone off to join the Jacobite army, leaving their homes and families unprotected, the harvest not gathered in.

Constance finds herself leading the villagers in her husband’s stead, and needs a solution to the lack of safety and the workload. With Mairead she summons the fae queen of witches – Nicnevin, and they create men of the earth, who they call Albans, to aid them.

But this great use of magic is bound to their lives and those of the village, and should they misuse it, Nicnevin will take her revenge. As danger grows closer and the rebellion fails, will the two women distort the magic between them and use it for ill?

Clever, intriguing and with two interesting protagonists in Mairead and Constance, not to mention the mysterious Nicnevin, this historical fantasy weaves a spell all of its own.

A mermaid’s curse.
A witch’s bargain.
A prince’s heart.

Mermaid Princess Alara’s kingdom is cursed.

No one has been able to enter or leave in over two decades and tensions amongst her subjects are rising. On the eve of her twenty-second birthday, the witch who cast the curse appears and offers to undo it all, but only if Alara can make a mortal prince fall in love with her, then break his heart before the next full moon.

It’s almost too easy.

Shortly after she arrives in the mortal lands, a gruesome murder is committed at the castle, and Alara becomes tangled in a mystery she never asked for.

As the body count rises, so do the stakes, and she’s running out of ways to ignore her growing feelings for the prince.

With the full moon looming, and a killer closing in, will this fairy tale end with more than just a broken heart?

With hints of The Little Mermaid, this is book one in a new romantasy series with Fake Seduction, Undercover Romance, and Slow-Burn Spice. A Tale of Cursed Tides is perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas, Jennifer L Armentrout and Sarah A. Parker.

Blog Tour: Burning State – Rob Sinclair

Can one man stop a nation from going up in flames?

James Ryker, former intelligence agent, is thrust into a high-stakes conspiracy that will test his limits, and his loyalty, to the max. Sent to Atlanta, Georgia, his mission to find a missing governor’s daughter quickly spirals into a deadly pursuit of ex-special ops agent Caleb Marshall. A man presumed dead, but very much alive, and with a terrifying thirst for vengeance.

As Ryker navigates a treacherous landscape of radical right-wing factions, underground networks, and devastating terror attacks, he uncovers a plot of unimaginable scale. Marshall’s meticulous plan to plunge the USA into chaos is playing out before his eyes, and with just a handful of allies, Ryker finds himself in a desperate race against time to stop the world’s leading power combusting from within.

My thoughts: James Ryker always sails close to the wind and none of his adventures are entirely sanctioned by anyone, so when he’s sent to the States ostensibly to find a governor’s missing daughter, who might have got involved with white supremacist terrorists, it’s not entirely surprising no one wants to help when he uncovers a huge and quite deadly scheme.

Caleb Marshall is a man on a mission, feeling betrayed and abandoned by his country, he’s planning a terrible revenge. And he doesn’t care who gets hurt along the way. There’s people on his list he needs to kill and then he can put his final plan into place, and if a home grown terror group can be of use to him for a while, then that’s fine too. He genuinely doesn’t care about their aims or beliefs, but until they stop being useful, he can pretend.

When Ryker realises Marshall has plans of his own, that go far beyond the small terror cell, he needs help, but apart from a journalist and her ex-sister-in-law, GBI agent Cindy, he’s on his own, and not exactly thrilled about it. Could this be beyond his special skills?

Gripping, thrilling stuff, and if you’re a Reacher fan, then you should be a Ryker fan too.

Blog Tour: Don’t Forget the Crazy – Lucy Kaufman

Her lists are life or death.
“If it’s on the list, I have to do it.”

Milli Morgan lives by her lists. Groceries, goals, organising her boss – nothing escapes being ticked off her ever-growing to-do lists. Order brings her comfort; control keeps the chaos at bay. Everyone can rely on Milli.

Until the day new items start appearing on her list in red ink.

At first, she blames stress. A prank. Someone playing mind-games. But one instruction on the list refuses to be erased and demands to be completed.

A command so terrible she would have to be crazy to tick it off.

Don’t Forget the Crazy is a dark psychological suspense short story about obsession, perfection, and the dangerous pressure of always being “the good girl.” Fans of Gillian Flynn, Lisa Jewell, Patricia Highsmith, and Shirley Jackson will devour this chilling portrait of order unravelling into darkness.

My thoughts: This short story depicts a descent into madness and mayhem for a tightly wound writer of lists. I like lists too, but not as much as Milli, who has so many, they’ve taken over her life. Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, she’s completely reliant on them to get things done and now they want her to do something terrible.

The work Christmas Secret Santa is always riddled with risk – what if you don’t like your Santee, what if you get it totally wrong? But when someone gets Milli a “Crazy Cat Lady Starter Kit”, she starts to spiral. She doesn’t even have a cat.

And after that…well… you’ll have to read it to find out!

Cover Reveal: 138 Main Street – Gavin Bell

AN ADDRESS TO DIE FOR…

There is a killer on the loose.

And he is targeting one specific address – 138 Main Street.

The problem? There are over 7,000 Main Streets in the USA.

And no clue which one will be next.

For FBI Special Agent Ben Walker and his rookie colleague, Officer Zoe Hill, the pressure to solve the case is unimaginable.

There aren’t enough police officers to cover every house, and vigilante residents are attacking anyone who rings their doorbell.

Main Street might be one of America’s most popular addresses, but for those living at number 138 it comes down to fight or flight.

Then a manuscript is sent to the New York Times, purporting to be the manifesto of the Main Street Killer and demanding radical social change.

As the effect of the terror campaign takes hold across the nation, Ben and Zoe find themselves in a race against time to stop the killer.

But with their target always several steps ahead, and almost 3,800,000 square miles of ground to cover, they’ll have to find him first…
