You can hide, but the truth will always find you.
Five years ago, Abi Benton heard a scream in the woods and chose to ignore it. That split second decision had catastrophic consequences and two people died. Now, someone seems determined to make her pay. But is her own guilty conscience distracting her from the true danger which threatens all she loves?
Beverley Parker came forward in response to a police appeal for witnesses when Hayley Atkins was killed. She thought she was doing the right thing but now, she lives her life terrified of being recognised as the woman from the woods.
Five years ago two people died, but other lives ended too. Abigail Benton: The woman who pretended she didn’t hear or see anything. Beverley Parker: The witness who came forward, and found herself vilified by the press. Jake Elwood: Tortured by the knowledge that his brother is a killer. Lauren Cooper: Desperate for no one to find out how she betrayed her best friend.
Four people, all with something to hide. Can they ever justify the choices they made that day in the woods?

Following a degree in Theology from Durham University and a successful career in the world of finance, Sarah saw the opportunity to take early retirement and fulfil her lifelong ambition to write a book.
Fascinated by people watching and amateur detective work via social media, these pastimes form the basis of the unsettling stories Sarah writes. Sarah lives with her family and dogs in rural North Yorkshire and published her debut psychological thriller, A False Reflection, in July 2025, followed by her second novel, Family Traits in October 2025.
A Guilty Conscience is her third novel and was inspired by hearing shouting whilst walking her dogs in the woods. As well as continuing writing psychological suspense (her favourite genre), she is now working on the first instalment of an exciting new series of ‘Cosy Crime’, which is not too cosy!
