Blog Tour: Just a Taste – Anise Starre

The only thing personal chef Noelle Jones loves more than Christmas, is cooking. She has a roster of extremely wealthy clients including the elusive and stoic Alexander Hoxton. When he asks her to cook a last minute business meal he’s having, offering triple her pay for the short notice, Noelle jumps at the chance. It’s easy money, one of her favourite meals to cook, and will still leave her plenty of time to get to her family’s annual Christmas reunion.

Just a Taste is contemporary romance at its finest with the perfect blend of ingredients: sexy, angsty, endearing, feel-good and funny.

My thoughts: This was a fun, festive romance, with a grumpy love interest for bubbly, Christmas fan and amazing chef, Noelle (her twin is called Eve) who gets stranded by the weather in Alex Hoxton’s fancy mansion over Christmas.

Having catered a dinner for his Board members, Noelle is supposed to drive to her Gran’s house to celebrate with her large and excited family. But the weather has other ideas. Her client, Alex, doesn’t do Christmas. There’s no tree, no cards, no carols and no pudding. He’s the Grinch to her Whoville family (if you’ve seen the film or read the book, hopefully that makes sense) and she just doesn’t understand why.

Trapped together in his rather austere home, with a falling apart heating system, and not much else to do but cook and get to know each other better, with frequent phone calls from her family, you can guess what starts to happen…

Will Noelle help this grumpy festive refusenik find his Christmas spirit? Will Alex actually turn out to have a heart that isn’t two sizes too small? Will they fall madly in love? Well, anything can happen at Christmas!

Cute, funny and perfectly capable of making you hungry (so many descriptions of delicious food) and with a charming pair of potential love birds, this is a festive romance to curl up with instead of watching The Grinch for the 900th time.

Blog Tour: My Rock Star Neighbour – Kathy Strobos

When a wary rock star and a cynical reporter fake date to bury a scandalous rumor, will true love be exposed as the real story?

Nick: I do my best songwriting while playing my guitar on the fire escape. Unfortunately, my in-bed-at-ten next-door neighbor, Maddie, is not a fan of my music. She clambers out on the fire escape to
yell at me about making “noise.” In bunny slippers, no less. But then she trips and falls into my arms.

That photo of Maddie plastered all over me hits the papers, just as my dream recording company wants to sign my band. Which is a problem, because an obsessed fan is claiming that I’m her
boyfriend and now the media is blowing up that I’m two-timing them both. Good-bye recording contract, unless….

Maddie: I’m supposed to cover the story. Not be the story! But when Nick begs me to fake date, I can’t resist the chance to be Nick’s girlfriend—even if fake—the opposite of my life as a city desk reporter. But my ex said I’m a terrible kisser, and there’s no way I want Mr. Hot Rock Star saying the same thing. Hence, clause 11 in our contract: There will be absolutely no physical contact.

Nick: When Maddie receives a threatening photo of the two of us with an X over her face, my desire to protect her suddenly feels all too real. It’s either a troll or her undercover investigation has been
compromised. With both our careers at stake, is breaking up the only way to keep Maddie safe?

My thoughts: This is a very cute romance, with a whole fake dating while actually really wishing it was real plot. Nick’s an up-and-coming rock star and Maddie is his journalist neighbour. A crazy fan is claiming to be his girlfriend, and the record label isn’t happy.

When a sneaky pap posts a photo that seems to imply something between the two friends, Nick decides to ask Maddie to be his fake girlfriend – just for a few months – and then they can break up.

Against her better judgment, Maddie agrees, as long as the terms are clear. She’s working on a huge corruption story for her paper and doesn’t really need the distraction, but Nick’s game to help her investigate. As the two don disguises and try to work out what’s going on, they find themselves falling in love for real…

Fun, charming and with an enjoyable subplot about Maddie’s investigation into corruption at city hall, you’ll wish you were in Maddie’s gang of pals for real.

Cover Reveal: A Scottish Love Story – Gwen Kirkwood

She came to Scotland for a fresh start — but found a love she never expected.

When Roxanne Carr accepts a job as a companion to elderly Amynta Baxter, she hopes the beautiful Highlands of Scotland will offer peace after the heartbreak of losing her father and her family farm. But her arrival doesn’t go as planned. Her first meeting with Amynta’s son, Ciaran, is anything but welcoming.

Ciaran Baxter is a dedicated dairy farmer with no time for complications — especially not a spirited young woman who disrupts his routine and challenges his guarded heart.

But as winter sets in and Christmas approaches, Ciaran begins to see a different side to Roxie: capable, kind and as passionate about the farm as he is.

Soon their relationship turns from wary allies to something deeper. But when Roxie is called back to Derbyshire to save her brother’s failing farm, she must choose between the family who cast her aside and the man who makes her believe in second chances.

This heartwarming romance is perfect for fans of Katie Flynn, Nadine Dorries, Rachael Lucas, Natalie Fergie, Anne Douglas and Emma Blair.

All my life has been connected to farming, first in Yorkshire and then in Scotland, so authentic farming details help colour my writing in most of my thirty published books.

The family sagas feature two, and sometimes three, generations, with changing times, clothes and customs,
transport, communication, or lack of it, with life’s joys and problems, plus love of course. We all need some love in our lives despite the ups and downs. They have believable characters and settings. A few are shorter romances. The sagas are available as audio books as well as in print, and all are now available as e-books.

I was born on a Yorkshire farm and went to school there. After attending agricultural college and a short spell working for the Ministry of Agriculture in England, I have spent most of my adult life on a Scottish dairy farm with my late husband, who was a well-known breeder and judge of Clydesdale horses. We have three children and now another generation to keep me up to date with changing times and customs.
I enjoy gardening, local history, cookery, and of course reading, as well as my writing.

Book Blitz: Be Our Ghost – Carla Luna

The only thing scarier than ghosts is falling in love.

Knox McIntyre has mastered the art of avoiding drama, especially the romantic kind. Ever since his screenwriting career went up in flames, the grumpy bartender has kept his past buried and his heart
off-limits. But when a paranormal reality show sets its sights on the boutique hotel where he works, he gets roped into the production—and partnered with the one woman who just might unravel him.

Charlotte “Charlie” Fraser is the Duchess Hotel’s sunny front office manager, a hopeless romantic with a weakness for happy endings and broody bartenders. After months of pining for Knox, she’s
finally ready to act—even if it means battling her inner scaredy-cat by helping him bring a ghost-hunting show to the hotel this Halloween.

As Knox and Charlie dig into the hotel’s chilling past, they find themselves irresistibly drawn to each other. Every lingering look, near kiss, and shared secret brings them closer to something real. But
unless they can summon the courage to face their feelings head-on, their love doesn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

Carla Luna writes contemporary romance with a dollop of humour and a pinch of spice. A former archaeologist, she still dreams of travelling to far-off places and channels that wanderlust into the
settings of her stories. Her books have been called “escape reads,” ideal for perusing during a beachside vacation, a long flight, or a relaxing weekend at the lake. When she’s not writing, she
spends her time reading, baking, and taking long walks while listening to pop culture podcasts.
Though she has roots in Los Angeles and Vancouver Island, she currently resides in Wisconsin with her family and her feisty Siberian cat.

My thoughts: This was a very cute Halloween-infused romance about a screenwriter turned bartender and a hotel manager falling in love as they organise and attend events at the hotel and bar they work at. Oh, and they get locked in a haunted room by a really angry ghost.

Charlie talks Knox into helping out with the events, even though he basically hates parties, but because he’s a bit in love (and lust) he’ll pretty much do anything for her – including wearing fancy dress and indulging her pirate and wench fantasies 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

But they’re also getting the hotel ready to feature on Canada’s Most Haunted – there’s a ghost trapped in the storage room, the victim of a murder, and she’s not happy. Charlie can sense her rage and wants to help, while Knox can only see the physical side effects, like when things start getting thrown around. I don’t personally really believe in ghosts, but buildings do seem to sometimes hold onto energy or something.

Anyway, if you’re looking for a little romance for this time of year – this one should keep you going till it’s time to roll out the Christmas reads.

Blog Tour: Battle of the Bookshops – Poppy Alexander

A charming literary-themed novel about a young woman determined to save her great-aunt’s beloved bookshop from extinction by the shiny new competition—which also happens to be run by the handsome son of her family’s rivals.

The cute, seaside town of Portneath has been the home of Capelthorne’s Books for nearly a hundred years… The shop, in the heart of a high street that stretches crookedly down the hill from the castle to the sea, may be a tad run-down these days, but to Jules Capelthorne, the wonky, dusty world of literary treasures is full of precious childhood memories.

When her great-aunt Florence gets too frail to run it alone, Jules ditches her junior publishing job in London and comes home to make the bookshop’s hundredth birthday a celebration to remember. Jules quickly discovers things are worse than she ever imagined: The bookshop is close to bankruptcy, unlikely to make it to its own centenary celebration, and the lease on the building is up for renewal. With a six-figure sum needed, the future looks bleak. To make matters worse, the owner of the property is the insufferable Roman Montbeau, from the posh, local family who owns half of Portneath.

The Montbeaus and Capelthornes have feuded for years, and Roman has clearly not improved since he tormented Jules as a child. Fresh from a highflying career in New York, he is on a mission to shake things up, and—unforgivably—proves his point about Capelthorne’s being a relic of the past by opening a new bookshop directly opposite—a shiny, plate-glass-windowed emporium of books.

Jules may not be able to splash the cash on promotions and marketing like the Montbeaus, but she’s got some ideas of her own, plus she has a tenacity that may just win the hardest of hearts and the most hopeless of conflicts. Let the battle of the bookshops commence…

Poppy Alexander is the author of The Littlest Library, Storybook Ending, and 25 Days ’Til Christmas. She wrote her first book when she was five. There was a long gap in her writing career while she was at school, and after studying classical music at university, she decided the world of music was better off without her and took up public relations, campaigning, political lobbying, and a bit of journalism instead. She takes an anthropological interest in family, friends, and life in her West Sussex village (think The Archers crossed with Twin Peaks), where she lives with her husband, children, and various other pets.

My thoughts: If you (like me) like You’ve Got Mail, you’ll love this. There are also plenty of Romeo & Juliet references too, because Jules and Roman are very aware of the whole star-crossed lovers from two warring families. Thing is, they’re not entirely sure why their families have this ancient feud.

Although Roman’s new bookshop right across the street from Jules’ hundred years old family run, slightly down at heel shop, is definitely going to reignite the family war. But then they realise how much they like each other. Even as they battle for bookshop dominance.

It’s cute and funny and a bit silly, and altogether rather charming. Perfect for a grey day’s reading.

My thoughts: Amy and Luke are both historians, specialising in the Middle Ages, following in the footsteps of generations of pilgrims on the Santiago Compostela into Spain.

As they travel, with Luke acting as Amy’s eyes, they build a story of previous pilgrims – Luc and Aimee, who were in a hurry to reach the end of the pilgrims’ route and avoid the church’s soldiers, carrying something precious.

The two narratives weave together as the modern day duo traverse the mountains and snow in a way that would seem impossible for the Middle Ages pilgrims who travelled on foot and if they were rich, on horse back.

Amy and Luke have been paired up by a mutual friend who thinks they would be good for each other. Both have been through terrible things and carry a lot of pain. As they get to know each other, they share details of their lives and begin to fall for one another.

I really liked Amy and Luke, and their Middle Ages alternates  – Luc and Aimee, the Santiago Compostela is something I find fascinating – it is still walked by modern day pilgrims – not all of them religious, and it was a huge undertaking before modern day travel options.

I’m a big fan of T.A. Williams’ crime books and his romance novels too. The stories, like this one, are clever, moving and enjoyable. It was a really great book to cosy up with one windy evening and transport myself to a wintry Spanish adventure.
